Week 6: So you want to be an entrepreneur?
There is a lot from this
week's readings that I want to remember and take with me as I continue to
learn, prepare and grow into the idea of being an entrepreneur.
From Elder Tanner's talk
about Self-Mastery, he said that there are two important elements in
self-mastery:
1. Determine your course
(set the sails of moral standards)
2. Willpower (the wind
in the sails carrying one forward)
I gained a lot of
important insights from the article: So
you want to be an entrepreneur?
In order of priority,
you need to have these three things (or find a partner to share the load):
1. Industry knowledge
2. Operational know-how
3. Fundraising ability
A few other take-aways
are:
Reputation is
everything.
Find a partner who will complement
you and supplement your strengths.
Always keep your
ultimate goals in mind. They will help
you make the right long term career moves.
My favorite quote from
Mastery so far is: “Intentionality fuels the master’s journey. Every master is a master of vision.” Goals and vision played a big role in my life
as a youth. In young women’s you prepare
to become a wife and mother and throughout high school I was preparing to go to
college. I had goals that motivated me
and helped push me to do hard things. After
going on a mission, getting married and eventually starting our family, I think
it’s easy to get so caught up in the day to day that you forget to dream and
have a vision for your future life. Over
the last year and especially throughout this course I have been reminded of the
importance of vision. You also hear a
lot about mindfulness these days and I think mindfulness goes hand in hand with
intentionality. When we approach our
life and each day with mindfulness and intentionality we work to create the
life we’ve envisioned.
