Week 4: How Will You Measure Your Life?
When talking about our dreams and aspirations, Sharon Mays said: "It's in you. Give it life." I absolutely loved that. It's really easy to feel like I don't have what it takes, I don't have the time or the abilities or the vision to make something great happen (like starting a business one day) but this was a reminder that all that I need is within myself. When we trust our inner wisdom and strength and rely on Heavenly Father's power and help, we can make great things happen in our lives.
I appreciated how Jeff Hawkins made his family a priority, even while building and growing successful businesses. He ate breakfast and dinner with his family every day. I thought this was a great example of being deliberate about family time. With Jared's residency, we don't always have lots of time but we have tried to make it quality family time and this has blessed our marriage and our family.
I can really benefit from the wisdom Clayton Christensen shared about time prioritization and management. Some of his advice included "Spend time each day reading and studying about your purpose in this life." "Your decisions about allocating your personal time, energy and talent ultimately shape your life's strategy." "It's easier to hold your principles 100% of the time instead of 98% of the time." It is really easy to let life happen to you, but this course is teaching me that we must be deliberate if we want to create a life of meaning.
My husband has a co-worker whose wife created her own Occupational Therapy center. I want to get connected with her and ask her about her experience; lessons she's learned, what she wish she knew when she first started out, and if she has any advice or wisdom for me as I continue to prepare to open up a Rec Center for kiddos with special needs.
