Week 12: Becoming a Changemaker
This
week, I was really surprised by the address given by Elder Gay about
entrepreneurship and consecration. I don't think he spoke much about
business or entrepreneurship but rather the privilege and responsibility that
we have because “Where Much is Given, Much is Required.” He talked about his humble beginnings when he
and his wife were first married and their ingenuity in creating and
running small businesses to pay their way while they were in school. He talked about the happiness and fulfillment
that they found even when they didn’t have much in the way of material
goods.
He
contrasted our privileged experience living in America and the opportunities
that we have for education and growth and prosperity with those that live in
other countries that are fighting not only for opportunities, but for their
lives.
He
talked about the importance of seeking to be of service in God’s kingdom as our
#1 priority. He said it has to rank
above our desire for riches and wealth if we want to be truly pleasing before
the Lord. A recurring theme in the
material of this course has been that as we put the Lord first in our lives and
seek to do His will and build up His kingdom, we will be added upon, we will be
blessed and prospered.
